How are the families for the torch lighting at the Polynesian picked? We have stayed at the poly a number of times in the past few years, but never experience this. Our son (7) loves the luau and practices fire dancing after each experience.

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel, Alvin!

My family and I absolutely love Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. Whether we’re enjoying a Dole Whip from the Pineapple Lanai, watching Magic Kingdom Park’s fireworks or the Electrical Water Pageant from the beach, participating in the many children’s activities on the lawn, listening to beautiful Island music performed live in the lobby or indulging in delectable fare from some of our favorite Walt Disney World Resort restaurants, there’s always something extra magical about the laid-back vibe at “The Poly.”

We’ve been fortunate to catch the torch lighting ceremony at dusk a few times, but have never been chosen to participate either. As with most of the similar experiences throughout Walt Disney World Resort, the families are randomly chosen to light the torches. My suggestion would be to talk to the concierge when you arrive and let them know about your son’s love of the ceremony and see if there’s any way they can work some "Disney Magic.” While there’s certainly no guarantee it will happen, it certainly never hurts to ask!

I hope you and your family enjoy your visit to Walt Disney World Resort this Fall, Alvin. You’ll be there just a couple of weeks after Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opens at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and as Guests at an official Walt Disney World Resort hotel, you’ll be eligible for extra, Extra Magic Hours (offered for a limited time only at select Walt Disney World Resort Theme Parks this Fall). I hope you and your family get to experience the Magic of that, too!

Please let us know if there’s anything else we can do to help you plan your vacation, Alvin. We hope to see you real soon!
