Fam of 4 back for 2nd trip w/ 2 boys 10 & 7 for Thanksgiving week 2013! We loved POFQ & decided to repeat to stay in mod range. Want to give the boys a different experience & heard you can use pools at POR as well? How long is the walk? Is it w

    Hi, Caroline!

Welcome back to the Disney Parks Moms Panel. You've asked an excellent question! I think planning a stay at one of the Moderate Resorts is a great choice. The Port Orleans "sister" resorts are my family's favorites in the moderate category, so I completely understand why you'd want to return for a second stay at Port Orleans - French Quarter!

The walk on the pedestrian path along the Sassagoula River between the two Port Orleans Resorts will take you about 15 to 20 minutes, depending on your pace. It really is a lovely stroll, so you may not want to hurry along too quickly. As an alternative to walking, you can take a (complimentary) water taxi from French Quarter to Riverside. The boats also run to the Downtown Disney area.

Regarding the pools, while Disney's policy is that only Guests staying at a particular resort may use that resort's pool(s), the exceptions are the sister resorts: Port Orleans - French Quarter and Riverside, Beach Club and Yacht Club, and Animal Kingdom Lodge (Jambo House) and Villas (Kidani Village). Guests staying at these resorts have reciprocal pool privileges at their resort's sister property.

Kids love the sea serpent slide at French Quarter's Doubloon Lagoon pool, but for a change of pace, the Ol' Man Island swimming complex at Riverside is sure to be a fun experience for your boys. They'll have a great time on the 95-foot waterslide and the pool itself is quite a bit larger than Doubloon Lagoon. Towels are provided at the main pool and restrooms/changing facilities are also available. If you'd like to stay dry and just relax while the boys are enjoying the pool, be sure to check out the adjacent Muddy Rivers Pool Bar.

Wishing you a magical vacation! Please let me know if I can assist you further with planning some special Disney time" with your family.
