Welcome back to planDisney, Kelly! It sounds like your cruise countdown is officially on, and that means it’s time to start thinking about packing!
The good news is that yes, an extra-large suitcase, such as one that’s 31 inches tall, is allowed as a checked bag on Disney Cruise Line. Each Guest is typically given one or two
luggage tags for checked bags, and you’re allowed to check up to two suitcases per person. While there’s no official size limit for checked bags, you’ll definitely want to follow your airline’s luggage guidelines if you’re flying to the port.
For carry-on bags, Disney Cruise Line does have a size limit. They must be no larger than 22” high, 14” wide, and 9” deep, so they can pass through the security scanners at the port. You’re also allowed to bring one personal item, like a backpack or tote.
Here's a planDisney tip: Once you’re onboard, most Guests store their suitcases under the bed. The beds are raised with about 12 inches of clearance, so make sure any hard-sided bags can slide under easily. And just in case you haven’t seen it yet, Disney Cruise Line has a helpful
packing list on their website. It includes great reminders, from Pirate Night gear to formal outfits to those must-have travel documents (I once forgot our passports and had to have them overnighted… not my proudest moment).
Also, a quick heads-up to check the
list of prohibited items before you zip up your bag...things like certain power strips and
high-wattage hair tools aren’t allowed onboard.
I hope this helps as you start organizing everything for your magical voyage! If you have any more questions along the way, you know where to find us.
Sea ya real soon!
