Could you explain the parking lot situation? Staying at AKL-KV, I've heard that AKL is so far from everything & KV is the last stop, it would be advantageous to rent a car. But then don't we drive to TTC & wait for transportation? Please advice!

    Hi Mindy,

When I visit Walt Disney World, I don't typically rent a car. However, there are a few resorts where I believe that access to a car is a must. The Animal Kingdom Lodge (and especially Kidani Village) are on that list.

If you're driving to the Magic Kingdom, then yes, you do have to park at the Transportation and Ticket Center and then take the ferry or monorail to the park. However, for all the other parks you can park directly in the lot and either walk or take a quick tram ride to the park entrance. Some guests with rental cars will routinely take the bus to the MK (to avoid the TTC), but then will drive themselves to the other theme parks, water parks, and Downtown Disney.

Having a rental car is particularly advantageous if you're planning on dining at resort other than your own. With a car, you can drive there directly, rather than making an intermediate stop at a theme park or Downtown Disney. This can easily save you half an hour or more of travel time for each reservation.

Good luck with your planning. Please us know if you need clarification or any more information.
