Hi Kelly!
I can understand your concern with both the price and logistics of wearing a full pirate costume around the park all day. Pricing is subject to change, but as of February 2012 there are three packages available for The Pirates League, which varies in price. For under $50 you can receive the basic package, which includes the pirate makeover, bandana, fake teeth and picture. For the same price, you can book an "Empress" package, which is for girls. For $124.95 you can choose a pirate costume, facial effect and get a picture.
I have a couple of suggestions for budget-friendly alternatives:
1. Buy the Pirates of the Caribbean Pirate T-shirt instead of the full costume. The T-shirt looks like a costume, but is under $20 and is a lot more comfortable and cool than a full costume. They sell the shirt online at Disneystore.com and it is a Disney Parks Authentic.
2. Buy the Pirates of the Caribbean 5-piece play set for only $17.95. You can also buy this online as a "Disney Parks Authentic." This playset includes the eye patch, sword, scope, flag and bird. You boys will feel like pirates, but again, it's a lot less expensive and more cool than a full costume.
3. Have the boys bring pirate-like clothes my home. My son loves to fashion his own pirate costume by cutting zig-zag patterns at the bottom of a white t-shirt, wearing loose brown pants and a belt over his chest like a sash. It fosters his creativity and saves me a lot of money.
