This well be everybody's first trip to Disney World. We are trying to decide between Pop Century & AK Lodge. My son is 9 & my daughter is 3! We are planning to return in the afternoon for naps. Also we are going a week before Christmas 08!

The Pop Century and the Animal Kingdom Lodge are very different hotels. The Pop has some cute "themeing" in the outdoor areas, but it really is a very basic value resort. The doors to the rooms open to the outside of the building, like at a motel. There are no amenities such as table service restaurants or room service. The pools at the Pop are not all that much different than those you might find at your town's recreation center.

In contrast, the Animal Kingdom Lodge is a spectacular deluxe hotel with every possible amenity, gorgeous pools and on-site viewing of a real game preserve. It is a magnificent place. If you're choosing between those two hotels, and pricing is not an issue, I would absolutely go with the AKL. The travel time between the AKL and the theme parks is about the same as between the Pop and the theme parks.
