Ahoy, Susan!
Being from Georgia, we drive to the
Walt Disney World Resort and Port Canaveral more than we fly, so I'm more than happy to give you the scoop! The drive over to the port is about an hour with a few stops for tolls. This is one of the cons for us, but it's just because my husband is a bit impatient behind the wheel! The key to getting through quickly is to have the money ready-dollar bills and quarters. Once you arrive at the port, you'll have to show your ID before you proceed to the curb to drop off the luggage. The porters will assist you with your bags, and you'll then have the choice to go on in the terminal or all go park the car. The deck is right next to the terminal, so it's only a short walk over. Once you arrive back after your cruise, porters will be there to assist you all the way to your car with the luggage. This is so helpful when my family cruises because we are always sad about disembarking! We make sure to have cash on hand for both days to tip the porters. There is a charge to park in the deck. Pricing is always subject to change, but it is currently $60 for a three-night cruise, $75 for a four-night, $90 for a five-night and $120 for a seven-night cruise. You can pay upon arrival or pre-pay online at www.portcanaveral.com. A pro to having your own car is being able to disembark at your leisure. A few times we have needed to get home quickly for an event later in the day and were able to utilize the Express-Walk Off and make it in time!
I hope my answer helps with your decision, Susan! If you decide not to take the plunge,
ground transportation can be added to your cruise reservation online or by calling (800) 951-3532.
Have a magical day!
