    Hi Erin, I used to be a librarian too ! We've booked Saratog for March09 with girls 7&5, not sure it's a wise decision now that you said we have to do bit more cleanup ourselves, the last thing I want to do on vacation !! Any tips, suggestions? Txs,

    If you are staying at a DVC resort paying with money, your room is like any other at WDW, with daily housekeeping. But if you are paying with DVC points, then you are at a "home away from home" and have to do more of the upkeep of the room yourself, just like you would at home. On the DVC plan, you receive "trash and towel service" on day 4 of your trip. This means that they will empty all your trash cans and replace your dirty towels with clean ones. You receive a full room cleaning on day 8. Guests staying on DVC points may have full daily cleanings, but there is a substantial fee for this.

    Long-time readers of this panel know that I am a DVC member AND that I hate doing housework on vacation. How do you reconcile these two things? Mostly that means I let things slide that I might not at home, but let's take it room by room:

    Bedroom: We usually stay in a two-bedroom villa. The kids have their space and hubby and I have our space. Frankly, I try not to go into their space too often :-) Just Iike I want a break from chores, so do they. If they don't make make the beds, if they leave their PJs on the floor, so what? I just let it go.

    Bathrooms: Since we're not getting new towels every day, you do need to be more vigilant here. Mostly that means that the towels MUST be hung up to dry. This only takes a few seconds.

    Living room: I keep all the souvenirs, maps, etc, in one corner of the room. Other than that, i don't worry too much. There are a vacuum and broom provided in the room. I never touch them.

    Kitchen: We mostly use the kitchen for snacks or maybe a quick sandwich. Things that can be cleaned up in a matter of moments.

    Laundry: This is actually a big help. The kids ALWAYS spill or have wet swimsuits. The washer/dryer means less stress over packing.

    To me, the benefits of the villas (HUGE rooms, private space for kids/adults) far outweigh the minimal cleaning that I can get away with there.
