Hi Erin! Another question. What is your opinion on visiting HDDMR and/or MBBBQ. I've read that it gets hot in the pavilion. Is there A/C in the summer months? We've never done either. Should we start with one? We have 3&5 yo active boys and 12 days at

Sorry I'm not going to be too much help on this one because I've never personally been to Mickey's Backyard BBQ. I did a bit of research and found out that there are overhead fans there, but no airconditioning because it is an open-air pavilion. The reviews I saw also said that it can be quite sticky during the summer months. Other items to consider with the BBQ are that the seating is not pre-assigned as it is with the other dinner shows, so getting there early to secure a good seat is important. The BBQ seems to be most successful for people with younger children who are not shy. The characters do not have set greeting areas, nor do they make their way to each table (as they do at the character meals). Instead, the characters spend their time on the dance floor and will dance with guests. If you have kids who don't mind putting themselves out there for attention, then chances are you'll have a great time. Your children are uncomfortable in crowds, this would probably be less successful for you. Again, none of this information is from my personal experience, just a summation of print and online reviews I've read.

I have, on the other hand, been to the Hoop Dee Doo Review at least half a dozen times. The first time I took my twins they were four years old. They LOVED it. I do however, think that four is about the lower limit for sitting through the HDDR. There are some audience participation parts, with clapping and stomping, but during the course of the evening, the child will be expected to sit fairly still for about 45 minutes. In my experience, this is iffy for kids younger than four. The Hoop is loads of silly fun and I guarantee that the "Hoop Dee Dooin' It" song will be stuck in your head for a week after the show.

If you decide to go to the HDDR, there is a cute playground and a small petting zoo right outside Pioneer Hall. These are great pre-show entertainment for the kids and are also nice if one of the adults ends up needing to take a child outside for a few moments.
