    Hi Erin! As the Hoop Dee Doo resident expert - which do you recommend for a family w/2 preschoolers - paying out of pocket for category 1 seats at the 5pm or 7:15 show or using 2 dining credits for category 2 or 3 seating (same times)? Great panel - Tks!!

    I don't know if I'm the Hoop Dee Doo expert ... but I'll give it my best shot. I have seen the show about half a dozen times. It's a must-do on every vacation. One of the best things about it is that the show's content and fun atmosphere works well for almost any age. My kids love it and my parents love it.

    For younger kids like preschoolers, I would STRONGLY recommend the 5:00 show. The whole dinner and show lasts about an hour and 45 minutes. If you saw the 7:15 show, you'd be done about 9:00 and probably not have the kids in bed until an hour after that. This would be pretty late for preschoolers.

    I also am a bit concerned when you say "preschoolers." I think the Hoop is a great show for kids; we first took our girls there when they were four and a half and they loved it. But I can't see bringing children much younger than this to any dinner show. The two and three years old that I've seen at the Hoop Dee Doo Revue (and at the Spirit of Aloha Luau) mostly get agitated before the show is over, just because that's a long time for them to sit still in any situation. If your kids are younger than four, you'd probably be happier if you held off on the dinner shows for a year or so.

    As far as where to sit ... We usually spring for the category 1 seats. In my experience, kids enjoy the show more if they can see clearly and have fewer visual distractions in their sightlines. That being said, I have sat in category two seats that were just fine for me. The small kids in category two seats were squirming a bit on their chairs to get a better view. Many of the category three seats are up in the balcony ("up on the shelf" in Hoop Dee Doo lingo). With one or two exceptions, you can see clearly from up there, but you are a bit removed from the action. My other concern with the balcony is that I always see little kids leaning on the railing up there. As a mom with mild vertigo, that just makes me nervous.
