Is the end of January a good time to visit (crowds, weather) or would the end of May be better?

Hi, Robin!  If it were up to me, I'd choose the end of January.  Although the weather in January can be a little bit unpredictable, you should find temperatures in the 70s during the day, and cool enough for a sweater or jacket in the evening.  We have gone swimming in January and not minded the temperatures, but we also lived in Orlando and experienced day time highs in the 30s one January!  May will be definitely warmer, but also more humid.

Crowd wise, the end of January is a good time to visit the theme parks.  With the exception of the weekend around Martin Luther King day, when children are off from school, we have always found the end of January very manageable in terms of the crowds.  The end of May not only has Memorial Day weekend crowds to worry about, but some schools and quite a few colleges will already be done classes for the year, and you may start to see an increase in crowds.  One advantage to the end of May, however, will probably be longer theme park hours.

And if you are planning for THIS January, please be warned that the Super Bowl is in Tampa this year, and I would imagine that will lead to a larger than usual crowd at the end of January.
