    I am in the very early stages of planning our 2nd trip to WDW and need to know if I should choose The Polynesian or the Contemporary. Is the Polynesian worth the extra cost? Our girls will be 7 and 5 and we will be visiting Feb. 2014. Thanks.

    Hi, Julie!  The rates between the Contemporary and the Polynesian are usually in the same ballpark, with price differences for things like preferred room location or Magic Kingdom views.  The major differences between the resorts include the layout and the theme.  There could not be more differently themed resorts than the Contemporary and the Polynesian.  Disney World's two original hotels, they are located fairly close to each other, but the slick, shiny, almost space age feeling lines of the Contemporary are dramatically different from the Polynesian's lush, tropical, island feel.  At the Contemporary, be prepared to be surrounded with a very advanced feel environment, with the monorail running through the resort and the more geometric decor.  The Polynesian makes you feel removed from modern society and transplanted into a tropical oasis.

    The Polynesian is a bit more spread out than the Contemporary.  You'll find the resort is broken down into longhouses, and each building is separated from the main building.  The Contemporary is more compact, with most of the rooms in the main building.

    Deciding what would be best for you depends on your family's vacation preferences.  You don't gain any more amenities at one over the other.  You'll have access to sit down dining and quick service meals and snacks.  There are shops in each that you can spend some time browsing, and both offer in room dining. The pool areas are both great for kids, and you'll find an arcade and even some planned activities for kids at both.  It really comes down to preference.
