Am in the VERY early planning stages of a 2013 holiday trip (I'm a planning nut). It will be DH, DS6 and DD2. Really want to see the Candle. Proc. but was wondering if anyone has any experience taking a 2 year old (will be close to 3)? Did they do o.k.?

    Hi Melissa,

The Moms LOVE early planners. We're happy to help you!

Whether your daughter will be OK at Epcot's Candlelight Processional really depends on her personality. The show itself is about 45 minutes long, but the attention span required will be substantially more than that. Even if you purchase a Candlelight dinner package (guaranteeing you seating), you'll likely have to wait for at least half an hour before the show.

The show's atmosphere is joyous, but also reverential. The guest narrator reads portions of scripture. I would classify the music as more hymn-type than modern or rock holiday music. Think classics like Silent Night and Away in a Manger. The seating is bench-style with no padding on the seat.  Personally, my own children would have been extremely squirmy in this situation until well into their elementary school years.

As a gauge, observe your children during a church service or even during the first hour of an in-theater movie. Can they sit still? Do you have to explain things to them? Are they chatty?  If the answers to these questions is no, then you may want to postpone the Processional until another visit.

An alternative would be to leave the kids with a sitter while you enjoy the Processional yourself. This could be a wonderful "date night" with your hubby. Or you could even have some bonding time by just taking your son.

Good luck with your planning. Please come back so we can provide additional assistance.
