Is DVC worth the cost? Mrs. and I like to travel and take a BIG vacation every year if possible. She isnt as big of a Disney nut as I am so we dont go to the World but once every 3 - 4 years. Are all of the other benefits worth the cost of DVC? Thoughts?!?

    Hi Dan,

This is my favorite, yet toughest, question to answer. My favorite because I love Disney Vacation Club and for my family, it is worth the cost. Toughest because it really depends on your family's vacation needs and financial background.

For our financial background, it did not impact the other financial goals we set for ourselves. It allows us to vacation at a deluxe accommodation yearly and we also do not have it forever. When we purchased in 1999, there were only the Disney properties and the exchanges for limited. Now members can exchange for the Disney Cruise Line or Adventures by Disney as well as other Disney properties at Disney theme parks or use RCI to trade for other resorts around the globe. Keep in mind the best use of your points is always going to be at a Disney Resort property however the flexibility is great.

You really need to vacation at least every three years on the program at the minimum so you do not lose points. This does not need to be at a Disney property however you need to vacation somewhere. I will say I did try to use my points this summer in Mexico and the Caribbean and it was smarter for me to pay outright for the hotel room than using points. However, if I went skiing this winter, the points would have been a better value so again you have flexibility to decide when and where to use your points.

I recommend you schedule time with a Disney Vacation Club guide to discuss options. You can schedule time at any of the Disney Vacation Club kiosks throughout the Disney World resorts. In addition, you can call 877-382-7826 or visit www.disneyvactionclub.com/moms for more information.

    Wishing you a magical day!
