Welcome back to the Disney Parks Moms Panel, Stacey!
I am excited to hear you are considering a Disney Cruise Line vacation to Alaska! My family and I traveled to this amazing frontier this past summer. I was blown away by the beauty and the different type of adventure the Alaskan itineraries offer. Being from the north, I was hesitant to book a "cold weather" vacation, but I am so happy my littles convinced us to see this part of the country.
We booked our cruise for the end of June as we heard mid-June through mid-July are some of the best times to see Alaska. It tends to be warmest this time of year with the longer hours of daylight near the summer solstice. We experienced great weather with only a couple rainy days, which didn't hold us back from any of our planned activities. That being said, I recommend you pack layers as moisture in the air can make it feel cool and visiting the glaciers can be downright chilly. If you are looking for a timeframe with fewer days of rain, aim for late May as this time tends to be more dry.
Icy Strait Point is a great port to see some of the best whale watching in Alaska. If seeing whales is a must do on your Alaskan adventure, I highly recommend you book an itinerary that includes this port.
Dawes Glacier is essentially a day at sea as the ship navigates the fjord to give all guests a view of the glacier. The
Glacier Explorer Port Adventure is offered to guests who would like to debark on this day (directly onto smaller vessel) to experience a closer look at the glacier and the wildlife surrounding the fjord.
Have fun planning! Bon voyage! Angie
