Hi Doug: We will be visiting on Memorial Day Weekend staying at AKL for the 1st time. What room and/or building do you recommend to be near the food and transportation? We paid for a pool view room. Any tips about attending the Star Wars weekend? Thanks!

    Linda,

So there is technically only one building for the Animal Kingdom Lodge. Think of it like an "X" like shapes resort, with four wings that project out from the amazing lobby. The two "lower" wings are fairly short, and are named the Ostrich Trail and the Giraffe Trail. The two "upper" wings are much longer, and are called the Kudu and Zebra Trails. Since the two upper wings can be VERY long, I always ask for something as close to the lobby as possible. This minimizes the walk, and unlike in other resorts I have never found that it increases the noise level. That is what you need to request. Since you have a pool view, you are either on the Giraffe or Zebra trail. I would actually suggest requesting the Giraffe Trail, as you are assured to be closer to the lobby and transportation.

As for Star Wars weekends, I recommend two things. First, regardless of whether you are interested in Star Wars or not, make sure you visit Hollywood Studios on a day of the week OTHER than Friday-Sunday. That way you can see the park without the event-related crowds. Second, if you ARE into Star Wars, then add another day, preferably a Sunday, when the festivities are underway. Note the Stormtroopers above you as you enter the park, and make sure you catch the Jedi Training Academy. Other than that, grab a special event map and just take in the fun atmosphere.

    Have a magical vacation!
