    Hi, Doug. Thanks for answering my previous question. I was wondering how many days you suggest a family with young children should spend in Disney? How many days to get through each park? We also would like some down time. Coming in October 2013. Thanks.

    Above all other things, you have to come for the amount of time that matches your budget. Walt Disney World will always be there, so you can always come back to see more of what you did not get to on your first visit. So don't overextend yourself financially because some guy on the Moms Panel told you that you needed 2 more days than you could afford!

    That being said, and in that magical world where money is no object, here is a general model to follow;

    • For a first trip, especially with younger children, I would tell you that for every day that you spend per park in other parks, you spend 2 in the Magic Kingdom. What I mean by that is that if you had 5 days you would go to the Magic Kingdom twice, and one day each to Epcot, the Animal Kingdom, and Hollywood Studios.
    • If you have fewer days, you have to start thinking about not visiting one of the parks, maybe Epcot or Animal Kingdom in your family's case.
    • If you have more days, you add more Magic Kingdom time, and certainly think about using a park hopper for a bit more evening time at Epcot.
    • I think a great first trip would be 6 solid days (not including arrival and departure days) so that I could do what I said above, along with a no-park pool day.
    • I would visit Downtown Disney on the evening of the day that I went to the Animal Kingdom.
    That is an initial suggestion. Now look at your budgets and write me back and tell me how many days you think you would visit and I can refine an idea of how much time and where.
