Doug, We're also from Carmel! Heading to DWR for daughter's 5th b'day next week. Any tips to make her experience magical? I've heard of the buttons - we have a reservation at CRT and Crystal Palace. Afraid we'll miss out on something :) Thanks!! :)

    Hello Amanda from Carmel!

Great to hear from someone else in town. Maybe your 5-year old and mine will be kindergarten classmates next year at Prairie Trace!

So you are due for a great celebration, I can tell. I would not put too much concern over making it 'more special'. Think how few kids get to celebrate their birthdays at Walt Disney World. Really just being there is special enough!

But definitely get a celebration button for her for the week. All you need to do is ask your Disney resort front desk when you check in. A little suggestion, ask them to put tape over her name on the button after they write it. I find that the name rubs off quickly. And part of that magic is when someone says "Happy Birthday Annie!".

If you are not staying at a Disney resort, just go to the Guest Relations desk of any park when you enter. They can help out. Oh, and have her wear it all vacation long, not just on her actual birthday. No reason not to stretch out the celebration!

As for extending it, I would recommend you call the reservation line and have them note in your dining reservations that you are celebrating a birthday. Or just tell them when you check in at each restaurant. That can bring some nice extra attention as well.

A final way to build on the magic would be to have a cake for her at one of your meals. But to be candid, we seem to eat so much on these vacations that another cake on top of it all seems like a bit of overkill.

    Have a magical vacation!
