Now often the buses will run for a good hour after a park closes. So while you might find a bus from the Animal Kingdom Park to the Animal Kingdom Lodge as late as 6pm, you would probably have trouble getting a bus TO the Animal Kingdom Park from your resort in the first place. So I would not recommend you try that route!
Technically what you are supposed to do is take a bus from your resort to Downtown Disney. Then you transfer to another bus destined for the Animal Kingdom Lodge. Of course if you are heading from any of the other parks, you could just take a bus directly to the resort, but otherwise I would say that this is your best way to get from point A to point B.
