I don't understand how photpass works. I will be taking my 6 y/o daughter on our first trip to DW Aug 1-6. We won't need/want a lot of photos. Do I have to pay $100 to use this service? Please explain/clarify. Thanks.

Not at all. This is how PhotoPass works:

There are Disney PhotoPass photographers stationed throughout the parks. All you have to do is walk up to them and ask them to take your picture (or they will automatically take your picture at some character greeting locations). After the photo is taken, the photographer will hand you a card the size of a credit card. This is your PhotoPass. Each time you have your photo taken the photographer will scan your card to add the new photo information (or you can keep accruing multiple cards). All of this is free.

When you get home, log onto disneyphotopass.com. The site will ask you to input the code numbers on the back of your PhotoPass cards you got in the park. Here you can view your photos. If you don't like any of them, just log off and you're done, with no expense at all. If you like some of your pictures you can order them as is, or add fun Disney borders or other embellishments. You can purchase as many of your photos as you want. If you only want one or two, just get those. Pricing can change, and there are sometimes discounts available, but the photos cost in the neighborhood of $12.00 each. So, if you only want one picture, that's all you have to pay.

There are also photo CDs available for purchase. With the CDs you are given the digital images to use however you want. Again, prices can change, but these currently retail for about $125.00 and discounts that bring them into the $100 range are often available. As you can see, if you're going to be buying more than about 9 or 10 of your pictures, it makes the most financial sense to go with the CD option.

There is a very detailed explanation of the entire PhotoPass process that can be found at the website stitchkingdom.com. It could be helpful to you in understanding how everything works.

Hope you have a great trip to WDW!
