We have never done a Disney cruise, but are doing one next year. I keep reading about people leaving gifts and then we could leave gifts, etc on the door. Can you help clarify this and what it is all about? How does it work? How many gifts would we provide

Welcome aboard, Bailey! Congratulations on booking your first sailing with Captain Mickey! Disney Cruise Line has so much to offer everyone in the family, you really are in for a magical vacation!

You mentioned guests leaving gifts for each other. You must be talking about the Fish Extender Exchanges that some Disney Cruise Line fan websites organize. These are not sponsored by Disney Cruise Line, but simply groups of guests cruising on the same itineraries who meet online and decide to have a gift exchange. They are called Fish Extender Exchanges because of the little hanging pockets that these guests create to hang from the fish clips outside each stateroom door.

I suggest your do a search online for Disney Cruise Line Fish Extender Exchange. There are a couple different fan forums that organize these, but DisBoards is the one we've used before. Once on their site, click on Forums, then Disney Cruise Line. There you'll choose Disney Cruise Line Meets. You then choose your particular ship and year, then find your exact sail date on that ship. There you'll join the forum with other guests on that exact cruise. It is within those "meet" groups that the guests decide amongst themselves if they'll do a Fish Extender exchange and what their own rules will be. Again, this is not sponsored by Disney Cruise Line, but simply a group of guests who want to meet up onboard and organize this themselves.

If that sounds like it'll add more magic to your cruise, sign up! But, Disney Cruise Line has all sorts of magic waiting for you even without this gift exchange, so don't feel like you'll miss out on anything if you don't participate. Though my family has participated in these exchanges a few times, we've also sailed many times without joining the groups, and have had even more magic on some of those trips.

Have fun planning your trip, Bailey!
