We are doing our first Disney Cruise in May 2016. We will be flying into the Orlando International Airport. What our the options for transportation to the Port and then back for our flight to get home?

    Ahoy, Brittany!

Congratulations on planning your first Disney Cruise Line vacation! It is so exciting to be in the early planning phases.

One of my best suggestions when planning your cruise vacation is to fly into Orlando the night before your cruise. Then, rent a car at the airport and drive to Port Canaveral that evening. If you stay at a hotel that has a shuttle to the port in the morning, you can return the rental car that night. This really helps to cut down on the stress level on your embarkation day. We have tried flying in on the same day that our cruise departs a few times, and we never really enjoy doing it that way and arrive to the cruise in a rather harried state.

If you decide to fly in the day of your cruise, you can take the Disney Cruise Line transportation from the airport to Port Canaveral. There is a charge of $35 per person to do this. You can also explore the option of taking a private car service, which I have found to be even more expensive than the DCL bus.

After our cruise, our family rents a car from one of the many rental agencies near Port Canaveral. Then, we drive to the airport and drop the car off there. On our next cruise, our flight is not until 7:30pm, so we are planning to spend the day at Downtown Disney, meeting friends for lunch and shopping for a few hours. The DCL bus heads back to the airport on your final day as well, for another $35 per person.

I hope this helps with your planning for your first Disney cruise. I look forward to hearing from you with more questions for the Disney Parks Moms Panel before your May, 2016 departure!

    Happy Cruising, Tracy V.
