It doesn't appear we'll get Reservations at Calif Grill for our last nite(11/01/13) of wk long vacation with 7&10 yr old grandsons and their parents (also our anniversary) what are other options to have dinner + watch MK fireworks show

    Ron,

    NOT SO FAST!

So word in the wind is that the California Grill will be re-opening sometimes this fall. They simply have not started taking reservations for these months, as they won't do so until they have a solid, locked-in opening date. So there is a very good chance that in the next month or two they will finally set the opening date, at which point they probably will begin to take limited reservations.

I am visiting in early October, so my strategy was to get a safety reservation at Citricos. Now I check every week or so to see if they have made any announcements to the effect of an opening date. When they do, I will get my reservation and cancel the original.

So where should you make a reservation as a safety to California Grill? One that has a view of the fireworks? The only truly reliable alternative is 'Ohana. Narcoossee's is more comparable to California Grill, but you really can't see Wishes from your table, since the railing on the deck outside usually fills up with watchers, blocking your view. Citricos also does not afford a good view.  But you can see the show from 'Ohana, as long as you are in the main room.

One final option, if you can't get a table at 'Ohana, is to dine somewhere in the Grand Floridian or Polynesian, then make your way to the beach at the Polynesian resort to watch the show. They pipe in the soundtrack from the show, and the fireworks are designed to be watched from that direction. So while they are further away than if you were on Main Street, they are great to watch from the comfort of your sandy escape!

Write me back with any follow-up questions!

Have a magical (and delicious) vacation!
