Are the Disneyland train and monorail still closed? We will be in the parks from 9/16/24-9/20/24 and my son LOVES vehicles.

Hi there Sarah, thanks for bringing this great question to planDisney!

At the current time, it does appear that the Disneyland Railroad will be closed for refurbishment during your trip dates.  The great news is that the Disneyland Monorail is scheduled to reopen on Friday, September 13!  However, I always like to check the hours & events calendar prior to my trips since the schedule can change as your trip gets closer.

I have a few recommendations for your son that loves vehicles even if the Disneyland Railroad is closed.  The first is that he may love riding on the Main Street Vehicles in Disneyland Park!  There is a Horse-Drawn Street Car, a Jitney, a Fire Engine, and an Omnibus which has a great view from the second story.  We've loved to take a break and just enjoy the sights and sounds of Main Street, U.S.A. as the vehicles transport you up and down the street.

I'm not sure how tall your little Mouseketeer is, but for vehicle aficionados, I highly recommend checking out the Autopia attraction in Disneyland Park where you get to drive your own vehicle!  My kids love this attraction since they feel like they're actually driving a car!  I also recommend exploring Cars Land in Disney California Adventure Park.  Radiator Springs Racers features vehicles that look like they've jumped right off of Route 66, and the other attractions in Cars Land feature fun, themed ride vehicles as well!

If you're over in Disney California Adventure Park, I highly recommend taking a ride on the Red Car Trolley.  The trolleys run continuously between 4 stops throughout Hollywood Land and Buena Vista Street, and we had a very fun Cast Member leading our leisurely ride through the park during our last trip!

I hope these recommendations are helpful for your son, Sarah, and that you have the most magical trip!  If I can help with any other ideas or suggestions, please do not hesitate to follow-up with me directly.

    Have a magical day!
    Melissa
