Does Disneyland close the roller coasters when it rains?

Let's open those umbrellas and dance in the rain, Kristina! Welcome to planDisney where we always look for the silver lining in the clouds. You'll be at Disneyland Resort soon, so no matter what Mother Nature has in mind, you'll have a magical time. Let's look at what attractions remain open in inclement weather so you can make the most of your visit.

While decisions can vary based on the specific weather concerns, most roller coaster attractions will remain open. At Disneyland Park, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will remain open during showers, and the good news is that wait times are usually shorter than average. Space Mountain will be open since it's indoors, and when Tiana's Bayou Adventure debuts later this year, it will probably be open during rain. At Disney California Adventure Park, the Incredicoaster will typically remain open, and a little rain whizzing by would add to the thrill!

Please remember that most outdoor attractions will close for safety if strong winds or lightning accompany the rain. I suggest you review the attractions that usually close during rain and plan your day accordingly. If it's not on the list, it's fair game in precipitation!

If the forecast looks wet, I always pack a poncho, and weather-proof shoes have been a lifesaver. If I only have regular athletic shoes, I like to bring extra socks to change into once the rain stops. And keep your camera handy because gloomy-day photos can turn out fabulous. Crowds are often sparse, and a fog-enclosed castle in your background looks absolutely dreamy. My family's motto is, "Be brave, stay, and play!"

Kristina, I hope your time at the Happiest Place on Earth is full of sunshine and warm breezes. But if some rain comes your way, remember to kick up your heels! Please stop by planDisney anytime.

    Magic awaits,
    Elaine
