Going to disney world week after thanksgiving trying to decide between contemporary resort (garden wing) or wilderness lodge. We have boys ages 9 and 5.

    Allison,

That is a tough one. But often the price difference can make your decision for you, as the Wilderness Lodge can be notably less expensive. But I will assume price is not an issue here.

So opinions will vary widely, but for our family we would actually go with the Wilderness Lodge, even though the Contemporary is on the monorail line. Why?

Ambiance: We like the Wilderness Lodge's theme and atmosphere better. It seems more kid-friendly, and has a warmer glow.
Boat Ride: The boat rides to the Magic Kingdom, and Fort Wilderness if we are dining there, are like a ride unto themselves.
Bunk Beds: Don't ask me why, but my kids love bunk beds. If you can get one of these rooms, your boys may love it too!
Children's Activity Center: While anyone staying at a Disney resort can use any of the centers, it is always more convenient if one is in your own resort. Having one here makes it nice for drop off and pick up on our date night.

But what do you lose? Well, we would miss not being on the monorail line, for sure. And of course being able to walk to the Magic Kingdom is a huge deal. Also, often kids will find that having a monorail run through the building is all the resort ambiance they need. In the end, I thing more people would tell you to go to the Contemporary, if money is not an issue. But now you know my opinion, and you also know that either way you go you will love it!

    Have a magical vacation!
