Hi I am going to Disney World in May and I wanted more information on if Magic Bands will be needed or not. I am confused how we would get into our room or parks if we do not have a Magic Band. Thank you!!

Hi Quimber and welcome to planDisney! I’m so glad you’ve stopped in to see us! I’m happy to help.

MagicBands are the quintessential accessory for guests staying and enjoying the Walt Disney World Resort. The bands are linked to your My Disney Experience account, so they will help you enter theme parks, when tickets are linked to them. You can make purchases at stores (when you add a credit card to your account) and restaurants all across the resort with them. You can also use them to open your Disney Resort hotel room door! They really serve so many purposes when you’re on vacation.

If you don’t want to purchase new bands for an upcoming vacation, you can always use bands that are already linked to your account. If you decide you don’t want to use them, it’s no problem either! To open your Disney Resort Room, you can use your My Disney Experience app on your cell phone. It can serve as your room key!

Quimber, when it comes to entering theme parks, you can always use an admission card. When you check in, a Cast Member will also give you a "Key to the World" card. The complimentary card acts just like a MagicBand. Right now, the "Sensational Six" Mickey, Pluto, Daisy, Donald, Minnie and Goofy are featured on them. They are so cute! So, you won’t have to worry, you will have lots of options to do what feels best for you during your next magical vacation.

I have a few MagicBands at home that always end up in my travel bag. I have a Toy Story band that is my favorite! There are so many cute styles, for just about every season, on shopDisney. I have purchased them as gifts for my kids in the past. They would make a great addition to an Easter basket!

I hope I’ve been able to help. If you have any more questions, don’t hesitate to come back to see us! Sharing our planning tips with you and helping you plan is our pleasure!
