What is it about Disney World that makes you keep visiting year after year?

I get asked this question a lot at home. After much thought, here's what I've come up with ...

I want my children to know the world. On some recent family trips, my kids have seen Ellis Island, the Maine woods, the Wisconsin dells, a Connecticut farm, the British Museum, a Los Angeles soundstage, and even the Oval Office. This winter we'll explore the Rain Forest in Costa Rica.

But we always return to Disney World. Because seeing the world teaches my children how life is, but seeing the World teaches them how life could be.

At Disney World, the streets are clean and safe. The food is fresh and plentiful. The needs of children are considered first. There is ample, free public transportation. And the people, well, the people are amazing. Coming from dozens of different cultures, the Disney cast members all cooperate to help others enjoy precious time with their families -- and what could be more worthwhile than that. The cast members' creativity and ingenuity is channeled into developing entertainment, enlightenment, and comfort. Technological innovation is used for peaceful purposes. You are greeted with a smile wherever you go; so simple, yet so rare.

I know it's idyllic and escapist. I know that's not how the world really works. But isn't it nice to know that's how things could be, if only for a week-long vacation.

Plus, those Mickey ice cream bars are delicious :-)
