we will be in disney world on my daughters 9th birthday. what are some things that we can do to make the day EXTRA SPECIAL?

Hi Kristy!  What a great way to spend her 9th birthday, she is one lucky birthday girl!
Have you considered booking a character dining for her birthday?  One of my favorites to celebrate a birthday is Chef Mickey located at the Contemporary.  It is a great deal of fun as your daughter will enjoy dancing in the aisles with the characters and waving her napkin for the birthday song.  The birthday girl will also receive a very special placemat, as well as a birthday cupcake.
When you arrive at the park on her special day make sure she also grabs her birthday button.  As she wears it proudly through the park, CM's everywhere will wish her a happy birthday.
Also another great idea is having a special personalized cake sent to your room and or restaurant where you will be dining.  When you make your ADR's (407- WDW-DINE) simply ask how you can also order her a special birthday cake.  They will be more than happy to help you.
My last suggestion would be possibly a surprise trip to the BBB.  She does not have to get a princesses costume if she does not want to, but you could still make an appointment to have her nails, makeup and hair done.  I have found that all 3 of my princess love this!  I'd keep going but I'm going to run out of room.  I truly hope this helps and that she has a magical birthday at WDW!
