With the Disney Vacation Club, I see that there is no discount for buying park tickets unless you buy a season pass. Is the discount for season passes really that good to warrant purchasing? Especially if you can only go once a year?

    Hi there, Karen!

The ticket discount currently available for Disney Vacation Club members is the significant discount on the Disney Platinum and Platinum Plus Annual Passes. For a new annual pass, you're looking at a savings of about $120 as a DVC member over the price of the pass available to the general public. Additionally, DVC members can purchase a Gold Annual Pass. The current price of that pass, which is available only to Florida residents and DVC members, is just under $630 for the year. There are block out dates applicable to the Gold Pass, but they typically are during the busy Christmas and Easter break periods.

You can calculate for yourself, based on the type of Disney tickets you would typically buy and how you vacation, whether or not this is a good deal for your family. Many people, when calculating the value of the annual pass, include things like room discounts and merchandise discounts, however, you'll get most of the same types of discounts with your DVC membership, so they may not be as much value to you. You will get free Disney PhotoPass downloads - those memories are priceless!

If you only go once a year, I would say you'd need to almost do a two week vacation to make it worth it for you to get an annual pass, even with the discount. However, I know for my family, having both DVC points and an annual pass takes the two biggest expenses out of the vacation equation, and makes it much easier to take a second (or even third!) trip each year.

    Happy planning, Karen!
