Disney trip in January for 2 adults and 2 boys, ages 7 and 4, do you think sci-fi theatre could be too scary for my 4 yr old, he doesn't like "monsters" and they state they show monster movies?

Hi Tia! The Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater is one of my family's favorite places to eat at Disney World! My kids think it's so cool to sit in cars and watch the campy drive-in movies while we eat. While the old science fiction film clips are more comical than scary for adults and older kids, I could see how some of them could be disturbing for a younger child, especially one who is afraid of "monsters." In May, I dined at the Sci-Fi with my four-year-old nephew. He was quietly mesmerized by the movie screen while we ate lunch (which made for a very pleasant meal for the rest of the family!). He did not seem phased by the creatures on the screen, and neither did any of the other young children in the restaurant. The clips on the screen are brief, and none of them are graphic or very realistic, and most young children don't seem to be bothered by them. However, every child is different and if your four-year-old is very fearful of monsters, it's possible that he may be upset at some of the images at Sci-Fi. If he's sensitive to images of monsters, you may want to wait until he's a little older to try Sci-Fi, and perhaps dine at the 50's Prime Time Cafe on this trip.  While you're at Hollywood Studios, stop by the Sci-Fi and ask if you can take a peek at the movie screen to see if the clips would frighten your son -- that way you'll know whether you should book Sci-Fi on your next trip.

Hope this helps you decide, Tia! Come visit us again at the Moms Panel if you have more questions.
