Hi Amy! It's nice to hear from another Carolina girl! September is a great time to visit Walt Disney World; generally, both the crowds and the prices are lower then!
In the Value resort category, I would recommend the
Pop Century. This resort is newer than the other value resorts, and your children will love the large colorful icons and the fun pools. Another plus is that the Pop Century doesn't share bus service with another resort, which gets you to and from the parks more quickly.
If your budget allows for one of the Moderate resorts, consider the
Fort Wilderness cabins. They have a kitchen, living room, and bedroom, which would give your family more room to stretch out. You could cut your food costs by cooking some of your meals, and you'd have the ability to put your children to bed in one room while you relax in the living area or outside on the deck. You could rent a golf cart to drive around the resort, and the kids could enjoy pony rides at the Tri-Circle-D Ranch. The Fort Wilderness hosts Chip 'n' Dale's Campfire Sing-a-long and Marshmallow Roast in the evenings, which would be a hit with your kids!
You didn't ask about the Deluxe resorts, but I encourage you to check
www.mousesavers.com and the
Special Offers page on the Disney website to explore the various room discounts that may be available. If you find a good deal on Deluxe resorts, I think you'd love the added space and extra luxury they offer. The resorts located on the monorail route (the Contemporary, Polynesian and Grand Floridian) are ideal choices for families of young children.
Please don't hesitate to ask me more questions -- I'd love to help!
