Mom and Daughter at Disney's Polynesian Village Resort Room

    We get to disney resort around 1:00 on a Friday. I thought we'd unpack then head to downtown disney. Walk around get some groceries (where) and then go back to the boardwalk. What entertainment is ther for a 6 yr old?

    Hi Mimi,

    I love that you are staying out of the parks on your first day and heading somewhere else. If I am there for a long trip, we generally skip the parks the first day and go to bed early so we are fresh for our first day. Plus it gives the girls an opportunity to swim in the pool which we never seem time to do once we head to the parks.

    Downtown Disney is great for shopping, dining, bowling, movies and a world class show in La Nouba. Plus Characters in Flight, a hot air balloon adventure, is a cool way to see the world. With construction at Downtown Disney, some of the outside entertainment has been reduced. If your six year old likes animals or dinosaurs, lunch at either the Rainforest Cafe or T-Rex is fun. There is also the Lego Store which you can build and play with legos.

    Downtown Disney does not offer a grocery store. Walt Disney Resorts all have small mini-markets on-site which sell the necessities. I recommend the Garden Grocer which is an online grocer who sells everything. These items can be delivered to your resort and you pick them up upon your arrival. You can even do perishables like milk and ice cream.

    At the Boardwalk, there are street performers and games of chance as well as shopping and dining. Also, with a quick walk, you can head to one of the mini golf courses, Fantasia Gardens. 

    Finally, the Boardwalk is home to the Keester Coaster which is a great water slide.
