Hi there, Donna! Welcome back to planDisney. It sounds like you’re planning an incredible Mediterranean cruise on the
Disney Dream! Che bello!
Your timing is perfect...I’m actually working with my travel agent right now on pre- and post-cruise options for our own Disney Dream sailing next summer, and my son will also be 18, so I totally understand where you’re coming from. European hotel rooms tend to be much smaller than what we’re used to in the U.S., and like you, I prefer for the whole family to stay together in one room when traveling internationally, especially for peace of mind and safety.
For your pre-cruise stay in
Barcelona, Disney Cruise Line recommends the Hilton Diagonal Mar (with gorgeous sea views) and the Renaissance Barcelona Hotel, which is right in the heart of the city. Both offer room types that can accommodate up to four guests, but since configurations can vary, I recommend
calling Disney Cruise Line or the hotel directly to double-check availability and bed options.
In
Rome, the recommended post-cruise hotels are the Anantara Palazzo Naiadi Rome Hotel, just a short walk from major attractions like the Trevi Fountain, and the Rome Cavalieri, A Waldorf Astoria Hotel, which is a bit more luxurious with stunning city views. Both of these properties do offer accommodations that can sleep four, but rooms for four guests (especially four adults) can be limited and book up quickly. In my experience, it’s best to call and reserve something now, even if you’re still deciding. You can always cancel later if plans change, but the closer you get to your cruise, the harder it is to find rooms that allow four guests together, especially if you want to be in one of the prime locations near the Vatican, Colosseum, or city gardens.
I hope this helps you feel more confident as you start booking, Donna! Let me know if you’d like to talk through more planning details. I’m always happy to help.
Sea ya real soon,
Eean
