We have Disney gift cards in our mobile wallets, are we able to pay for our meal at sit down restaurants in the parks with that form of payment?

    Hi there, Lynn!

Welcome to planDisney and thanks for coming to us with your question! Oh boy, do you have some Disney Gift Cards burning a hole in your pocket? I know how that feels. I'm a Disney Visa Cardholder and I have a Rewards Redemption Card that I'm just itching to redeem before my next visit with my kids.

I'm glad that you were able to add Disney eGift Cards to your mobile wallet. If you have any physical Disney Gift Cards that you'd like to also use, you may consolidate your cards at Disneygiftcard.com. This site is not a mobile wallet and should not be treated as such, but you may transfer funds among cards if desired. If you also register an eGift card into your account, you may consolidate your cards into that one (up to a max of $1000) so that it may then be used in your mobile wallet.

I'm happy to report that many locations throughout the Disneyland Resort support contactless payments, so you should be able to use your mobile wallet at many places, including table service restaurants. Also, you'll need the gift card number if you use it to pay for Mobile Order or Merchandise Mobile Checkout through the Disneyland Mobile App. If you happen to be a Disney Visa Cardholder, just remember that you'll get a discount at many restaurants throughout the Resort if you use that card for payment.

Fun Fact: Disney used to print their own currency! Disney Dollars were first sold to eager park-goers on May 5, 1987 and the first bills were delivered by none other than Scrooge McDuck in an armored truck. Each bill was printed on banknote stock and had a unique serial number with a subtle watermark to discourage counterfeiting. Jack Lindquist is credited with coming up with the idea for Disney Dollars and, since they were considered legal tender, it was reportedly the first time four-color currency was used in the United States. Sales of Disney Dollars ended on May 14, 2016 and they are now considered valuable collectibles.

Meet the Panelist: Al, California

Ahoy there from the heart of Steinbeck Country in central California! I've been visiting the Disneyland Resort since childhood and fell in love with the sense of absolute immersion that the Imagineers have achieved. My favorite attraction is Pirates of the Caribbean because where else can you go from a California day to an evening boat ride in the bayou with "salty old pirates"? I'm a veterinarian and an all-around Disney geek and enthusiast. I'd love to help you plan your next Disneyland trip! Learn More About Al
