We are going to Disney for the first time in 3 weeks.. we are planning on using Disney transportation, however is there anytime that it would be more convenient to drive our car to the parks?

There are widely differing opinions about the need and convenience of using a car at Disney World versus using Disney transportation. Whatever your overall feeling, there is one circumstance where it is almost always easier/faster to drive than use Disney transport : when you're traveling from resort to resort. Disney does not provide transportation directly between the resorts. If you're using their transportation, you'll have to make a transfer at a theme park or Downtown Disney. Having your own car is easier than this.

The one situation where most people would recommend that you NOT use your own vehicle is when you're visiting the Magic Kingdom. The MK parking is not actually at the park, you have to park near the Ticket and Transportation Center and the take the monorail or boat to the MK. When you use Disney transport, the buses drop you right near the entrance gate. Because of this, Disney transportation is usually the faster way to get to the MK.
