How do you get to be the Disney family on the cruise ships?

    Ahoy, Robin!

To get to be the family of the day on a Disney Cruise Line ship means that your family will be the first to board the ship. One of the Cast Members makes a big deal of announcing your family and everyone claps and cheers as you leave the waiting area and go to board the ship.

There is no secret formula to get to be the family of the day. It is simply a "pixie-dusted moment" that happens for one special family. Our group was chosen as family of the day on our New Year's Eve cruise on the Disney Magic in 2013. We had two families, ten people in all, and we were all wearing bright lime green t-shirts with Mickey ears and a picture of a DCL ship on them. I think we stood out to the Cast Members working in the terminal and we were asked to be the family of the day.

Other times, our family has worn matching t-shirts and not been chosen. I have seen families with non-matching shirts get chosen. If Captain Mickey chooses you, that is wonderful. If not, it is still wonderful, since you are embarking on a Disney Cruise!

    Happy Cruising, Tracy V.

Walt Disney World was my very first vacation, when I was just 3 months old, and I recently completed my 73rd trip to a Disney location! I have been fortune enough to parasail high above the Disney Fantasy, attend opening day of Batuu, snorkel in the lagoon at Disney's Aulani, and SO MUCH MORE! I can't wait to help you plan your Disney vacation!
