Ahoy, Susan!
Your cruise is coming up quickly! I recently returned from a weekend getaway on the Disney Dream, and it was just what the doctor ordered. Our weather on
Castaway Cay was picture perfect, and we soaked in as much vitamin "sea" as we could before heading back to the ship for our last night of fun.
February is an ideal time to run the very popular Castaway Cay 5K. Registration is ongoing once you are aboard at either Guest Services or the Port Adventure Desk. I've experienced this course on a few visits and always enjoy kicking off my day with a three mile run in paradise. At this time, Disney Cruise Line has set the minimum age to participate at 10, so your mouseketeers will have to wait a few more years before they can join you on the course. But don't worry; Scuttle's Cove will keep them very entertained while you run. What you'll want to do is meet up with the group on the ship (specific instructions will be listed in your cruise newsletter) with your children. You'll be able to leave the meeting first so you can disembark and stop at Scuttle's Cove to check them in. It is important to go to the meeting because you'll receive your official runDisney race bib there, which is a great souvenir along with the colorful medal you'll receive at the finish line. You can catch up with the group near the starting line which is located near the Pelican Point Tram Stop.
If you are a first-timer, I definitely suggest picking up a Castaway Cay 5K t-shirt in one of the gift shops on the island. I bought one a couple of years ago and still enjoy wearing it. Also, water is available at the start/finish line and at the end of the airstrip along the course if you need an H20 break. You can either bring a change of clothes or head back to the ship to change. It is only a short walk or tram ride away.
Warm wishes for a magical Bahamian adventure, Susan!
