We are on the Disney Dream Cruise on Aug 12th. I'm trying to decide on a port adventure in Nassau. The input I see on our Facebook page goes back and forth between staying on the ship, Blue Lagoon or Atlantis. Any advice for a first time cruiser?

    Welcome aboard, Tracy!

Congratulations on booking your very first sailing with Disney Cruise Line! There is so much to experience both onboard the ship and in every port of call, you're truly in for a magical adventure!

Since this is your first cruise, I highly recommend that you head off the ship for at least a bit of time in Nassau! You will want to soak in the island culture and experience some of the uniqueness of that special spot in the Bahamas. I've been there quite a few times now, so there have been a few cruises when we've opted to stay onboard that day and take advantage of the lower crowds on the pool deck and the AquaDuck. However, for your first visit to Nassau, you must go check it out!

I've been to both the Atlantis Resort and Blue Lagoon and had great experiences at both. However, I prefer Blue Lagoon because it's so much more relaxing and peaceful and has the most gorgeous beach. Now, if you're into waterparks, then of course, you'll want to enjoy Aquaventure at Atlantis. But, if you're looking for a relaxing beach day where you can either kick back and do nothing but soak in the Bahamian sun, or opt for some extra fun water activities that are also available, I'd recommend Blue Lagoon over the Atlantis Beach Day, as in my experience, life is a bit more hectic at Atlantis than on Blue Lagoon.

My kids enjoy the cruise on the ferry boat that takes guests from Disney's ship over to Blue Lagoon, so that was an attraction in itself for them! Plus, there are a few return times, so if you want to spend the whole day, you can. However, if you're ready to head back earlier, just catch one of the earlier ferries back to the ship, and you'll be all set. You can make the day in Blue Lagoon whatever you want it to be, Tracy!

Now, neither of these spots will compare to the BEST beach day you'll enjoy when you arrive at Disney's private island paradise, Castaway Cay. That is my family's favorite beach since it's private, secluded, and has so much included! If there's only one beach day you want during your cruise, Castaway Cay will be it!

I hope that helps as you prepare to book Port Adventures for your exciting and magical cruise! Please stop back again before you set sail if you have other questions. We're super happy to help!
