Welcome aboard, Arlene! Your family is in for so much fun when you set sail on the Disney Wonder in just a few more days! I can tell you from lots of experience on that ship that every single member of your family is going to have the most wonderful vacation ever!
The counselors in the
Oceaneer Club and
Oceaneer Lab (the clubs for ages 3-12) are trained to work with children of all abilities, and quite often children with various special needs will be in the clubs. When I've sailed, I've chatted with the managers of the clubs about children with special needs participating and what they do to ensure that those kids can have just as much fun as the other kids and that the parents can rest assured that their children are well taken care of. After each talk with the counselors there, I've felt reassured that Disney's counselors really know the best ways to get children involved in the activities and events and with the help of tips from parents, each child can enjoy those clubs very much!
I suggest that you stop by the Oceaneer Club during their open house hours that first day onboard. You can show your son around the club with you there, so he can get acquainted, meet the counselors and see what fun is in store. It's also a great time for you to chat with the counselors about your son and his specific situation. The counselors are so accommodating and will be happy to work with you to ensure your son has a magical experience when you drop him off during secured programming.
I hope those details help as you count down these last few days until you set sail! Have a wonderful cruise, Arlene!
