Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel, Leah!
How exciting that your family will be cruising with Captain Mickey! A Disney Cruise is an amazing experience for everyone in your pirate crew. I can understand your concern for your son and hope to put your mind at ease as you get ready for your high seas adventure.
Disney Cast Members amaze me with their compassion and ability to handle any situation with grace and service. My daughter was terrified of meeting characters and would instantly turn to tears when she saw them. A Youth Counselors noticed this during a meet and greet in the club and pulled her aside. Together, they made a "power mask" she could wear while characters were in the youth clubs. Near the end of our cruise, my daughter bravely wore her mask, walked right up to Captain Mickey and gave him a big hug!
To help prepare you to experience the same magic moments with your son, I would recommend you contact
Special Services to discuss accommodations and needs while onboard. They will be able to answer any questions you have prior to your cruise. You can also look for family friendly events like "Family Movie Fun Time" in the Buena Vista Theatre. Lights are kept on and the volume is low creating an environment for kids to jump around, giggle and enjoy a movie! If waiting in line is a challenge, have one member of your family wait in line for character meet and greets and your son can join when it's time to say hello to our favorite mouse!
