Going to be going on a Disney Cruise for the first time in March/April. I 'just' saw Disney gift cards at the store. How do they work ? I heard that some are better to get than others ?

Welcome back, Kelly! Disney Gift Cards are a wonderful way to help save for your cruise, and great for budgeting the extra money you'd like to spend onboard. My family and I purchase Disney Gift Cards throughout the year to save for our cruise vacations. They are all the same, so none are better than others, but perhaps what you may have heard is that purchasing them in certain ways is more beneficial than others.

Our local grocery store offers extra fuel reward discounts on any gift cards we purchase there, saving us money on filling up our car with gas by saving these points. We always get 2x the fuel rewards on gift cards, but at times, the store will feature a 4x fuel reward on gift cards. That is when I stock up! While it's not a cruise discount technically, I look at it as one, because we need to pay for our cruise, and the car needs gas, so why not save at the same time? At times, I have gotten $1 off per gallon! That's a big savings!

We use gift cards to pay off our cruise throughout the year. Once onboard, we take them to Guest Services to add to our stateroom account as credits. Anything we charge with our Key To The World Card gets deducted from those credits. Our kids use their Disney Gift Cards to purchase souvenirs in the gift shops onboard. That helps them learn that when their money is gone, it's gone. No more asking Mom and Dad for one more item they just can't live without!

Give the agents at Disney Cruise Line a call at (800) 951-3532 to pay a portion of your cruise fare with Disney Gift Cards whenever you'd like. Then, grab more as you budget throughout the next months leading up to your cruise, that you can use for any purchases you charge to your stateroom account, like gifts, Port Adventures, specialty drinks, gratuities and more!

Have fun planning (and shopping!), Kelly!
