We’re going on a Disney cruise to Alaska. Our baby will be drinking formula. I understand that formula has to be factory sealed when we embark on the cruise. But does it also have to be factory sealed when we get on and off in every port stop as well?

    Ahoy, Kristin!

Thanks for sailing by planDisney. Our first cruise as a family was when our second daughter was 7 months old, and I remember packing ALLLLLLL the things, including formula (seriously, her bag was bigger than mine!).

So, let's dive into what you can and cannot bring on board. You are welcome to bring unopened cans of formula (in their original factory-sealed state) and any filtered bottled water you need. You can bring a small cooler (<12"x12"x12") as a carry-on to store the formula or other medications you are traveling with. You can also bring breast milk onboard, but only as a carry-on. You don't have to worry about the ports of call for your cruise, but you cannot bring any opened formula off the ship at the end of your cruise. This is due to customs regulations.

When we traveled with our daughter on our 7-day cruise, I brought a small travel-sized can of formula that I knew would last about 7 days and then packed multiple single-serve formulas in her diaper bag as backup (which were super convenient during ports of call). It was nice because then I didn't have to waste any formula on disembarkation.

Kristin, in case you need something during your sailing, the ship sells multiple baby items onboard, including, but not limited to, diapers, formula, bottles, shampoo, pacifiers, and baby food. You can request freshly puréed baby food in the main dining room and Room Service will happily bring hot water to mix with baby's formula. Also, a limited number of bottle warmers and sterilizers are available at request for you to use during your trip.

If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to sail back back. I wish you smooth sailing!
