We are going to Disney August 29-Sept 2, 2008 with our 1 1/2 year old. She loves Mary Poppins and Marie from the AristoCats. What are our chances of her meeting them and where?

Mary Poppins in easy to find at WDW, she makes regular appearances at character meals and guest greeting areas.

One of the best places to see Mary Poppins is at the Supercalifragilistic (did I spell that right?) breakfast at 1900 Park Fare in the Grand Floridian. She is obviously a regular there :-). I have even see Bert and the penguins from the Mary Poppins movie at this location -- though they are not always around. Mary Poppins is also a frequent visitor to the princess meals at Cinderella's Royal Table in the Castle and at the Akershus in the Norway pavilion at Epcot. To make reservations for any of these meals, call Disney Dining at 407-WDW-DINE.

Mary Poppins also greets guests in the England pavilion with some regularity. To find out the exact schedule, check the free Times Guide as you enter the park.

I'm afraid that I can't be so encouraging about the possibility of meeting Marie. I have never personally seen her in the parks (there are often Marie plush toys for sale though), but that doesn't mean that she has never been at WDW. I would go to the guest services office at one of the theme parks and ask them to call the "character hotline" for you. They will be able to tell you if and when any particular character will be appearing at the time of your visit.  However, I do think it's unlikely that you will encounter Marie at WDW.
