Hello, I am a Disney Annual Passholder. I'm trying to figure out which option is better for dining...adding the Disney Dining plan to my room reservation or paying out of pocket with the AP dining discount?

Hello, Sarah! Thanks for bringing your question to the Disney Parks Moms Panel. You've asked a very thought-provoking question, and while I'm not sure if there's one right answer, I'd be happy to provide you with some Moms Panel advice!

First of all, thank you for being a member of the Passholder Family! As you probably already know, benefits include discounts on dining, which at many restaurants is 10% off the price of food and non-alcoholic beverages. Also, Annual Passholders are now able to add the Disney Dining Plan to their reservation- you just need to call (407) 939-5277 and ask for a "Ticketless Package." Each family is different, so it's hard to say if you'll save more money by adding the Disney Dining Plan; however, what you will add is convenience, since all your meals will be paid for in advance of your trip. Disney really sweetened the deal last year when they started including an Alcoholic Beverage with each meal for Guests 21 and older.

One thing that makes this a dilemma for us is that my youngest Mouseketeer, who just turned 11, is considered an adult on the Disney Dining Plan, but he definitely still has a kid-sized appetite. What I've found that works for our family is to purchase a Tables in Wonderland Membership, which is exclusive to Florida Residents, Passholders, and Disney Vacation Club Members. Currently, the cost of a one-year membership is $150 (prices are always subject to change) for Walt Disney World Resort Passholders and Disney Vacation Club Members, and this entitles you to a 20% discount on food and beverages, including alcohol, at over 100 participating restaurants at the Walt Disney World Resort (discount is valid for a party of up to 10 Guests including the member).  Since we enjoy eating at Signature Restaurants and having a glass of wine (or two) at dinner, the savings can really add up. We feel like this membership suits our vacation and dining style, so we usually choose not to add the Disney Dining Plan and instead pay out of pocket for our meals. If you want any additional information on Tables in Wonderland, contact them at (407) 566-5858 or WDW.Tables.In.Wonderland@Disney.com.

I know I probably didn't answer your question, Sarah, but hopefully, I've given you some food for thought! If there's anything else we can help you with, don't hesitate to ask! See ya' real soon!
