Hi Catherine,
Welcome to planDisney! Disney World has a whole host of
services for guests with disabilities that I highly recommend checking out before your trip. There are several options to make your trip as smooth as possible and to make Disney's theme parks accessible to every guest.
Disability parking is available throughout Walt Disney World. You will need to have a valid disability parking pass and the standard parking fees will still apply. When you pull through the parking booth at each theme park or a Disney Resort let the attendant know you will need to access disability parking. They will help direct you to the proper parking lot that gets you closest to your destination.
If you plan to
rent an ECV or wheelchair at the theme parks, these are not available until you make it through the theme park entrances. When you park in the disability lots, there will be courtesy wheelchairs that you can borrow until you get to the area where rentals are available. Trams do not run in the disability parking lots and they can still be quite large so take advantage of the courtesy wheelchairs if needed. I also recommend getting there earlier in the day for access to the spots closest to the entrance.
Discounts are available for your theme park tickets through your local participating US military sales outlet. These tickets are a great deal and help to make your vacation affordable. There is also a military resort located on Disney World property called
Shades of Green which is also the only Armed Forces Recreation Center Resort in the United States. This resort hotel is fabulous and caters to both active and retired military throughout their trip to Disney World.
Happy Planning,
Jenna
