Hi there, Nicole! Thanks so much for sailing by planDisney with your question!
Some cruisers love to unplug completely while at sea, but I totally get wanting to stay a little connected. I recently sailed on the Disney Magic with a friend who just used the complimentary Wi-Fi for iMessage while I opted for a paid package so I could check emails. So I’ve got you covered with the options!
From your question, it sounds like you might not need to purchase a Wi-Fi package at all. Once you board and connect to the
DCL-GUEST Wi-Fi network, you’ll be able to access the
Disney Cruise Line Navigator App, which includes complimentary access to iMessage for text-only messages between iPhone users. Just keep in mind that you won’t be able to send or receive photos, videos, or media without a paid package.
A quick tip that my friend shared with me: be sure your phone is in airplane mode with cellular data turned off to avoid any roaming charges. Even in airplane mode, you can still connect to the ship’s Wi-Fi to use the app and basic messaging. Some guests also have luck using apps like WhatsApp for text-only messaging, though calling isn’t supported.
If you need more than basic texting,
Disney Cruise Line offers two Wi-Fi packages you can purchase once you’re onboard and connected to the DCL-GUEST network through the Navigator app. These cannot be pre-purchased.
• The Internet package is $26 per 24-hour period (prices subject to change) and includes web browsing, email, social media, texting, Zoom, and phone calls on FaceTime. This is the one I used when I wanted to keep up with email.
• The Internet + Streaming package is $42 per 24-hour period (again, prices subject to change) and includes everything in the basic package plus access to streaming platforms like YouTube, Disney+, Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, and more.
If you decide to upgrade during your cruise, you’ll only be charged the difference in price, not the full amount again. And if you’re thinking about sharing a package across multiple devices, you can! Packages are available for up to four devices. If you try to log into more than your purchased limit, you’ll either be prompted to upgrade or someone will get logged out.
I hope this helps you stay connected just the right amount during your Disney Cruise, Nicole! If you think of anything else while planning, you know where to find us.
“Sea” ya real soon,
Eean
