What is the difference between Special and Unique Dining and dinning event?

    Hi Lydia!

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel! What a great question! I had not thought about it myself until you asked. Dining at the Walt Disney World Resort has changed so much since I was a kid, and food has become almost an attraction in itself. My husband and I will be visiting the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival in November, and I already have a running list of foods I’d like to try!

When looking to make Advance Dining Reservations, there is an option to select from a drop-down menu what kind of dining experience you are looking for and that is where you will usually see these options. You may also see them listed in the description next to each location. There are some differences between Unique & Themed Dining and Dining Events, but you will also find that there is a lot of cross-over.

Dining Events would be different than a standard meal, like maybe afternoon tea, or include something in addition to just your food. You’ll find dessert parties, dining packages with reserved seating to shows or parades, dessert cruises, dinner shows, and special holiday parties!

Special and Unique Dining would include many of these same events but also would show you restaurants that offer an out-of-the-ordinary dining experience. Would you like to meet Lilo and Stitch for breakfast at ‘Ohana? How about sitting in a car at an old fashioned drive-in movie theater at the Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant? What about Chinese or Irish food? You’ll find international flavors, character dining and more in this category.

Have fun choosing dining experiences for your upcoming visit, Lydia. Please let us know what additional questions you have, or if you’d like any recommendations on our favorites.

    Wishing you delicious dining!
