Hi! Are all the designated smoking areas located in the courtyard area of each building at Old Key West? Are there buildings that don't have a smoking area? We are trying to avoid it. Is it possible to request a non smoking building?

    Hi Theresa!

Welcome to planDisney! This is an excellent question, and I totally understand wanting to avoid these areas, especially if you have children in your party. Even as a non-smoker, I have to admit I’ve never paid much attention to the smoking areas at Disney’s Old Key West Resort, but I’ve done some investigating for you!

I’ve gone ahead and cross-referenced Disney’s official smoking area map with a map of Disney’s Old Key West Resort. While it appears that most buildings do have their own smoking area, I do see a few buildings that don't have a labeled smoking section. Specifically, buildings 15, 17, 25, 26, 34, 35, and 38 are not marked as having a smoking area. As long as Disney’s official map online is accurate, those buildings should meet your specification.  I like that buildings 15 and 17 are a bit closer to the Hospitality House, so you may want to put those at the top of your list!

Theresa, you can call and request one of these buildings. If you booked directly through Disney you'll want to call the Walt Disney World Travel Company, and if you booked with Disney Vacation Club you'll need to call Member Services. Please know that requests are just that, requests, and not a booking category or a guarantee. Requests cannot always be accommodated. I recommend you tell them the reason for your request as that might increase the chances you are assigned a room in one of these buildings, or if they can’t put you in one of those, perhaps they can give you a room as far from the smoking area as possible.

Thanks for submitting your question, Theresa, and for presenting an interesting challenge! I thought I knew a lot about Disney’s Old Key West Resort already, but you learn something new every day! Please let me know what additional questions you have before your visit, especially about your resort. It is one of my family’s favorites! Make some time during your trip to dine at Olivia's Cafe. Dinner is delicious and while I haven't been for breakfast, I know it's a favorite of Disney Vacation Club Members! Sending you pixie dust for the perfect room request and fresh air.

    Happy Planning!
