Ahoy, Deanna!
It is wonderful to hEAR from you again. This question couldn't have come at a better time because I just completed my online check-in for my next Disney Cruise. During this process, which occurs 75 days prior to departure for
first time cruisers, you'll submit a credit card number that will be connected to your "Key to the World" card and used to make all your
on board purchases (the ship is essentially cash-free). Some examples of purchases made on board are
port adventures,
spa/salon treatments, adult-dining experiences, souvenirs, specialty/alcoholic beverages, pictures and mixology seminars. And all plans you make online during the check-in process will not be charged until your cruise. Your credit card can be charged during your sailing if your folio balance goes over the set amount by the cruise line (2-5 days-$300, 6-9 days-$500, 10+ days-$700). If you stay under these limits or use gift cards or cash to pay off your balance as you go, your credit card will not be charged until your sailing is over. I find that purchasing a
Disney Gift Card at my local grocery store each week is a great way to budget for our on board expenses.
I hope my answer gives you a better idea of how spending works on a Disney Cruise vacation. Please write back if you have any additional questions. We are always happy to help.
Have a magical day!
Nancy
